Sergeant Adam Thomson RNZAF



Sergeant Adam Haddon Thomson DFM was the 22-year-old Wireless Operator / Air Gunner aboard Short Stirling Mk.I W7475 HA-H that failed to return from a raid against Hamburg on November 9th 1942.  His usual skipper was Flight Lieutenant Roy Spear RNZAF who had completed his tour only weeks before Adam’s death.  The crew been taken over by the recently posted Squadron Leader Peter Hickling DFM of “A” Flight.  Adam “Eddie” Thomson was on his 28th operation when lost.  He was awarded the DFM in July 1943, the citation reads ” He is  courageous and his sole purpose is to ensure hitting the target”
